Personal Protection Outside the Home

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Prerequisites: Must have completed a Basic Pistol, credible CCW class or equivalent training and the Personal Protection Inside the Home class or equivalent. Should be comfortable and confident in pistol handling skills and demonstrate intuitively safe gun handling techniques. Participants will shoot with their normal concealed carry handgun. Target ammunition is acceptable. We will shoot approximately 200 rounds.

Objective: To understand the dynamic of an attack and develop skills to respond in a strong, defensive and effective manner.

Course Description: Strong side, outside-the-waistband holsters are preferred for this class. Some strong side, inside-the-waistband holsters may be allowed (CrossBreed type) at the instructor’s discretion. Please contact the instructor before class. While ankle holsters, shoulder holsters, crossdraw and off-body holsters (purse/fanny packs) are not allowed, techniques will be shared to practice with those carry methods after class.

After a safety and legal review, a shooter’s physical and emotional response to a threat will be examined. This involves the OODA Loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) and how training and practice help you build a more effective and intuitive defensive response. Just prior to the live-fire exercises, we will complete several air soft “force-on-force” drills. Live-fire exercises will focus on shooting at multiple targets (deadly threat decision making), moving while shooting, drawing from the holster (and the return), shooting from the retention position, a Tueller Drill and shooting on a timer.

Session Length:  7 hours

Cost: $180 (includes lunch)
